About Pizza Chemistry

How do you perfect pizza dough? What makes melted cheese so gooey and stretchy? Why do herbs, tomatoes and tiny microbes make pizza so delicious?

Find out the secret science behind pizza with scientist and Great British Bake Off finalist, Josh Smalley. Through showstopping, hands-on demos, Josh will show you how yeast and fermentation work, how gluten helps dough rise, and how heat from the oven turns simple ingredients into a tasty pizza.

Packed with plenty of wow moments, budding bakers and the whole family are invited to our Cheltenham Science Festival kitchen, where you can discover and be inspired by the science hiding in your home.

Get ahead of your Festival reading and visit the Waterstones Cheltenham Science Festival bookshop and support Cheltenham Festivals with every purchase.
